Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Growing Futures Program serving both Ottawa and a Northern Community, organized by the Parkdale Food Centre, and the kitchen renovation at the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa

As part of the program, many of the chefs made a social contribution by sharing their skills with local charity organizations yesterday. The following groups benefited from culinary demonstrations and food production for some of our community’s most at-risk members:

  • The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa
  • The Shepherds of Good Hope
  • The Ottawa Mission
  • Ottawa-Carleton Lifeskills
  • The Parkdale Food Centre

“As the nation’s capital, we’re proud to bring Canadians together in honour of our country’s 150th anniversary with unique experiences like Canada’s Table. Tonight’s event will create lasting, cherished memories for residents and visitors of this once-in-a-lifetime commemoration.”
–– Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa

“Food has always brought friends, families and communities together of all ages and backgrounds – it is at the heart of cultural celebrations and the foundation of many fond memories. Canada’s Table will not only put a spotlight on the incredibly talented chefs we have here in Ontario and in Canada, it will also help raise funds for food security projects – a vital service for the well-being of our communities.”
–– The Honourable Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport

“Canada’s Table is a very special opportunity to celebrate our unique and world-class culinary identity, as we mark our 150th anniversary.  Cooking with us this weekend are some of the top chefs from near and far across Canada, partnered with many of our country’s top artisanal wineries.  We celebrate at a single, 1000-foot table – in a stunning setting – with friends and strangers alike, to embrace community and forge relationships as one can only do over a dining table with great food and caring hospitality.”
–– Stephen Beckta, Owner, Beckta, Play and Gezellig restaurants

“We want to add a very special thanks for the many caring hearts and helping hands that have come together to produce this evening’s remarkable event.  From this weekend, we hope to help grow a more resilient next generation, through these many food security efforts, and the greater awareness that grows from them.”
–– Sheila Whyte, Owner, Thyme & Again
