City Pleased With Decision Not to Appeal
Ottawa – Earlier today, the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) received word that the Friends of Lansdowne Inc. (FOL) have decided not to seek leave to appeal from the Supreme Court of Canada.
“This is an important moment in our City’s history as this Friends of Lansdowne decision removes a significant legal hurdle which could have further delayed the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park” said Mayor Jim Watson. “I look forward to working with all members of Council and the public as we proceed with the creation of a City-wide destination that all of us can take pride in.”
“We are pleased with the definitive findings of the Ontario Court of Appeal and that the City can now proceed according to Council’s direction,” said Peter Doody, Lead Counsel for the City’s legal team.
“While many important milestones have been achieved over the last year we are pleased to be past this legal hurdle. Now we can focus on the exciting part of this project – building a world-class stadium and redevelopment for all to enjoy,” said Roger Greenberg, on behalf of OSEG.
