Ottawa – The City of Ottawa is working in partnership with local public and private sector organizations, local snow removal contractors and other key stakeholders, to move forward with salt management best practices as a means of protecting the environment and being fiscally responsible.
Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson and Councillor Mark Taylor, Chair of the Community and Protective Services Committee joined Wanda MacDonald, Executive Director of the Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre and Angela Warren, Case Worker to launch the new Families First Program. “I am proud that our Council decided to invest $14 million annually to provide housing and support to reduce homelessness in Ottawa,” said Mayor Watson. “We’re working hand-in-hand with our community partners to deliver real solutions to families in our community.” 
This is one of the City of Ottawa’s most ambitious road projects ever, with two years of normal construction packed into one. Reconstruction of the street between the Rideau Canal and the Queensway began in May and crews worked long hours to get the deep construction work finished so the street could be reopened to traffic by November 15 – in time for the Christmas retail season.
Ottawa – City officials are pleased to announce that an annual waste collection savings of $10 million is achievable based on the results of the curb side waste contracting competition. If approved, these contracts will contribute to at least a 20% reduction in total waste collection costs that will be passed along to ratepayers.
Ottawa – The City of Ottawa’s $14-million annual investment in affordable housing and homelessness initiatives is paying dividends, with several projects exceeding the targets set out by Council earlier this year.As outlined in a six-month status report to the City’s Community and Protective Services Committee available online today at Ottawa.ca, more than 950 households will have benefited from the Housing and Homelessness Investment Plan by year end.

At the same time, the City will halt trapping activity in the Paul Lindsay Pond area.“We have heard in recent days that people would like us to have a second look at how we protect the integrity of our flood control systems and we are listening and acting,” said Mayor Watson.
Ottawa – Ottawa’s sports greats are once again proudly on display with the official opening of the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame at its new downtown location.“I am honoured to officially open the new home of the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame right here inside the historic Heritage Building at City Hall,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “This space will preserve and showcase the tremendous achievements of our athletes for over more than 100 years and attract residents and tourists alike to share the proud history of Ottawa’s greats.”
